Messaging
Published 24 March 2026By Jordan Morris
IgniteAI has a real-time direct messaging system. Use it to have private, one-on-one conversations with any other member — your coach, a fellow founder, a potential collaborator, or anyone you have connected with.
Starting a Conversation
- Go to Messages in the navigation.
- Click New Message or the compose button.
- Search for the person you want to message by name or email.
- Select them from the results.
- Type your first message and press Enter or click Send.
You can also start a conversation from someone profile page by clicking Message.
The Messages Page
The Messages page shows all your active conversations in a sidebar on the left. Each conversation shows:
- The other person name and avatar
- The last message preview
- A timestamp
- An unread badge if there are messages you have not seen yet
Read Receipts
When the other person has read your message, the conversation shows that it has been seen. This confirms your message was received and read — not just delivered.
Email Notifications for Messages
Setting What happens Instant You receive an email as soon as someone sends you a message Daily Digest You receive one summary email per day listing any unread messagesHow to Change Your Message Email Preferences
- Go to Settings in the navigation.
- Find the Direct Message Notifications section.
- Choose Instant, Daily Digest, or turn email notifications off.

Tips
- Use messaging for personal, direct conversations. For startup-specific discussions, use startup updates or squad feed posts instead.
- Respond promptly when you can. A delayed response to a coaching request or introduction can break momentum.
- Start with a clear purpose. A specific opening message is more likely to get a reply than a generic greeting.
